Ingredients

  • 1 stick oleo
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 can fruit (berries or pineapple)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine sugar, flour, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Add milk and oleo (melted butter) to the dry ingredients; stir until smooth.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased baking dish.
  5. Drain the can of fruit, reserving the juice if desired, and spread the fruit evenly over the batter.
  6. Use brown sugar with the pineapple if using pineapple.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
  8. Serve warm or cooled, optionally with cream or ice cream.
