Ingredients

  • 1 pkg dry yeast
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 6 cups flour
  • 3 drops almond extract
  • 1 stick butter

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Add sugar, salt, 3 cups flour, and almond extract; mix well.
  3. Add 1 stick melted butter and 1 beaten egg; mix well.
  4. Add another egg and the remaining 3 cups flour. Knead well and let rise until doubled in bulk (about 1 hour and 15 minutes).
  5. Knead the dough again.
  6. Divide into loaves and let rise again for 1 hour.
  7. Bake at 400°F for 15 minutes, then reduce temperature to 300°F and bake for an additional 30 minutes.
