Ingredients

  • 9 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 cups scalded buttermilk
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 3 packages yeast

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, soda, salt, and sugar together.
  2. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water and set aside for 10 minutes.
  3. Add scalded buttermilk and shortening to the flour mixture.
  4. Stir in the dissolved yeast.
  5. Knead on a floured surface until smooth.
  6. Shape into desired rolls and place on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  7. Let rise until doubled in bulk.
  8. Bake at 400° F until lightly browned.
