Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 slices bread

Instructions

  1. Cook brown sugar and butter together until brown.
  2. Heat 2 1/2 cups of milk and add to the sugar mixture.
  3. Remove from heat; let stand for about 5 minutes.
  4. Soak bread slices in 1/2 cup of milk in a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.
  5. Beat the eggs; mix with the sugar mixture.
  6. Stir in vanilla and pour over the soaked bread.
  7. Bake at 325°F for 45 minutes.
  8. Serve hot or cold with whipped cream.
