Buttery Bread Dough

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water (110~ to 115~)
  • 1/2 c. warm milk (110~ to 115~)
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/2 to 3 c. all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. In large mixing bowl, combine yeast and water.
  2. Add warm milk, butter, egg, sugar, salt and 1 1/2 cups flour.
  3. Beat on low speed of electric mixer for 3 minutes.
  4. Gradually mix in enough remaining flour to make dough easy to handle.
  5. On well-floured board, knead for 5 minutes or until smooth and elastic, adding flour to board as needed.
  6. Shape dough into ball.
  7. Place in greased bowl; turn dough over.
  8. Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
  9. Punch down dough; shape as directed in recipe.
