Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider adding herbs or garlic powder to the dough. If you don't have sourdough starter, you can substitute it with an equal amount of plain yogurt or buttermilk. Ensure the yeast is fresh for the best rise; if it doesn't foam in warm water, it may be expired. Avoid overmixing to keep the rolls light and fluffy.

Serving Suggestions

These buttery sourdough pan rolls are ideal for breakfast or as a side with dinner. They pair beautifully with Eggs And Cheese On Toast or can be served alongside soups and stews. For a sweet touch, consider drizzling them with honey or serving with jam. They also make a delightful addition to holiday meals.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, freeze them in a zip-top bag for up to 3 months. To reheat, wrap rolls in foil and warm in a 350°F oven for about 10-15 minutes until heated through. This helps maintain their softness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these rolls ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the dough in advance and let it rise in the refrigerator overnight. Just remember to bring it back to room temperature before shaping and allowing it to rise again before baking.

What can I do if my dough isn't rising?

If your dough isn't rising, check that your yeast is active; it should foam in warm water. Ensure your environment is warm enough for rising. If necessary, place the dough in a slightly warm oven or a warm spot in your kitchen to encourage fermentation.

Can I add fillings to these rolls?

Absolutely! You can add fillings like cheese, herbs, or even cooked meats before shaping the rolls. Just be careful not to overstuff them, as this can affect their rise and texture.
