Cabbage Hot Tamales feature seasoned meat and rice wrapped in tender cabbage leaves, simmered in tomatoes for a hearty, flavorful dish perfect for family dinners and gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb hamburger
  • 1 onion
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup rice
  • 2 Tbsp chili powder
  • 1 can whole tomatoes
  • 1 Tbsp bacon grease
  • 10 large cabbage leaves

Instructions

  1. Mix hamburger, rice, chopped onion, chili powder, black pepper, and salt into 10 meatballs.
  2. Wilt the cabbage leaves in boiling water until soft.
  3. Wrap each meatball mixture in a cabbage leaf.
  4. Secure the wraps with toothpicks.
  5. Place the wrapped tamales in a pot and pour the canned tomatoes and water over them.
  6. Cover and simmer for 1.5 hours until cooked through.
