Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground chuck
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 c. chopped onions
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 c. finely chopped celery
  • 1 (No. 2) can tomatoes
  • 1 (4 oz.) can sliced mushrooms and juice
  • 3 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper
  • 3/4 c. raw rice

Instructions

  1. Brown meat in shortening, mashing often to avoid lumping.
  2. Use a Dutch oven.
  3. Add all other ingredients and mix well.
  4. Bring to a slow boil; reduce heat to simmer, cover and cook about 40 minutes or longer.
  5. Taste for seasonings.
  6. Stir often to prevent sticking.
