Calizonas are savory, cheesy sausage-filled pastries with a crispy exterior and gooey interior. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or snacks, they combine tender bread, seasoned sausage, and melted cheese for a satisfying treat suited for gatherings or family meals.

Ingredients

  • 2 loaves frozen bread
  • 3 cups Longhorn cheese
  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese
  • 2 lb sausage

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F.
  2. Place frozen bread in bread pans and let thaw without letting it rise.
  3. Scramble sausage in a skillet until browned.
  4. Shred the cheese(s).
  5. Pinch each loaf into 3 to 4 separate sections.
  6. Butter hands and press each section flat, stretching dough to about 6 inches across.
  7. Add 4 to 5 tablespoons of sausage on each pressed dough piece.
  8. Add about 1/3 cup of cheese on top of the sausage.
  9. Fold the dough over to form a pastry-like fold.
  10. Bake on a cookie sheet for 20 to 30 minutes.
