Caramel Snakes are chewy, oat-based treats with rich caramel and chocolate flavors, perfect for satisfying sweet cravings and enjoyed by all ages.

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. caramels
  • 1/3 c. water
  • 2 c. quick cooking oats
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1 c. packed brown sugar
  • 1 c. margarine or butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 pkg. (6 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Heat caramels and water over low heat, stirring frequently, until caramels are melted and mixture is smooth.
  2. Combine quick cooking oats, flour, brown sugar, melted margarine or butter, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Press half of the oat mixture into a greased 13x9-inch baking dish to form the crust.
  4. Pour the melted caramel mixture evenly over the crust.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining oat mixture over the caramel layer.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the hot bars.
  8. Let sit until chips are melted, then spread evenly with a spatula.
  9. Cool completely before cutting into bars.
