- Soften yeast in lukewarm water; add melted butter, sugar, and salt.
- Blend in egg.
- Gradually add sifted flour, mixing until dough is blended and soft.
- Roll out dough on a well-floured board.
- Brush lightly with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar.
- Cut into 1 1/2-inch squares.
- Place half of a maraschino cherry in the center of each square.
- Let rise until light, about 25 minutes.
- Bake at 400° for 15 minutes on a greased cookie sheet.
