Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 2 eggs, separated
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups finely chopped walnuts
  • maraschino cherry halves

Instructions

  1. Combine butter and sugar until well blended.
  2. Add light corn syrup, egg yolks, vanilla, and flour; mix well.
  3. Chill the dough until firm.
  4. Lightly beat the egg whites until foamy.
  5. Shape the dough into 1-inch balls.
  6. Dip each ball into the beaten egg whites.
  7. Coat with finely chopped walnuts.
  8. Press a maraschino cherry half, cut side down, into the center of each cookie.
  9. Place cookies about 1 1/2 inches apart on greased baking sheets.
  10. Bake at 325°F (163°C) for 20 minutes.
