- Cream butter and sugar together.
- Add eggs and beat until light and fluffy.
- Stir in almond extract.
- Mix in flour and baking powder until smooth.
- Pour the batter into a buttered 13 x 9-inch pan.
- Spoon cherry pie filling into the batter at 4 spots in each direction, for a total of 16 spoonfuls.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 to 50 minutes until a toothpick tests done.
- Cut into 16 pieces while still warm.
- Invert the pieces onto a serving plate with the bottom side up.
- Dust with powdered sugar.
- Top each piece with a spoon of whipped cream.
