Ingredients

  • 1 small fryer chicken, cooked, bone removed, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 1/2 cups plain White Lily flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/3 cup Crisco
  • 1 cup sweet milk

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, salt, and baking powder to make the dough.
  2. Roll out the dough to about the same thickness as pie crust.
  3. Prick the dough with a fork and cut into 2 inch wide strips, then break into pieces about 2 inches long.
  4. Add enough water to the broth to make about 2 quarts.
  5. Bring the broth to a boil, add the cooked chicken pieces, dumplings, salt, and pepper to taste.
  6. Simmer until the dumplings are cooked through and the flavors meld.
