Ingredients

  • 12 frankfurters
  • 1 slice American cheese (3 1/2 x 3 1/2-inch)
  • 2 cans chili hot beans (15 oz. each)
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp. cumin
  • 1/8 tsp. cayenne red pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Make 3 (1/2-inch) deep cuts into each frankfurter on a diagonal.
  3. Cut the cheese slice into 36 strips, about 1 x 1/4-inch each.
  4. Insert a cheese strip into each cut in the frankfurters.
  5. In an ungreased baking dish (11 1/2 x 7 1/2 x 1 1/2-inch), mix the chili hot beans, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, and cayenne red pepper if desired.
  6. Arrange the frankfurters on the bean mixture in the baking dish.
  7. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until heated through and cheese is melted.
