Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. Crisco
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. almond extract
  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. chopped pecans
  • 3 1/2 to 4 doz. chocolate kisses

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, cream 3/4 cup Crisco with 1/2 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Add 1 egg, 2 teaspoons vanilla, and 1/2 teaspoon almond extract; beat well.
  3. Stir in 1 3/4 cups flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt until just combined. Fold in 1/2 cup chopped pecans.
  4. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet and roll into 1‑inch balls. Press each ball around a chocolate kiss so it is completely enclosed.
  5. Bake for 12 minutes, or until edges are set. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack. Decorate or frosted as desired.
