- Butter the sides of a heavy 2-quart saucepan.
- Combine the sugar and milk in the saucepan.
- Heat and stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a boil.
- Cook until the mixture reaches soft-ball stage (234 degrees Fahrenheit).
- Remove from heat and add the marshmallow cream, peanut butter, chocolate pieces, and vanilla. Stir until blended and smooth.
- Pour the mixture into a buttered 9x9x2-inch pan.
- Allow to cool until firm, then score into squares while warm and cut when completely set.
