Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 1/2 cups unsifted all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons double-acting baking powder

Instructions

  1. In a large mixer bowl with electric mixer at medium speed, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in egg, milk, vanilla, and almond extract until well mixed.
  3. Wrap the dough and refrigerate until firm.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Roll dough onto a lightly floured surface to 1/8-inch thickness.
  6. Cut out dough with star-shaped cookie cutter.
  7. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  8. Bake for 10 minutes or until lightly browned around edges.
  9. Cool on wire racks.
  10. Ice and decorate as desired.
