Ingredients

  • 1 heaping cup sugar
  • 1 rounded spoon shortening
  • 1.5 cups flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

Instructions

  1. Cream sugar and shortening together until well blended.
  2. Add milk, egg, flour, and baking powder to the creamed mixture and stir until smooth.
  3. Grease a 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  5. Sift a sprinkling of flour over the top of the batter.
  6. Dab butter and brown sugar cinnamon over the flour-sprinkled surface.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 40 minutes or until cooked through.
