Ingredients

  • 5 Tbsp. sugar
  • 5 Tbsp. flour
  • 2 c. milk
  • dash of salt
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 whole eggs or 3 egg yolks

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients (sugar, flour, salt) and add milk, stirring until smooth.
  2. Cook the mixture over medium heat until it thickens slightly, then remove from heat.
  3. Beat eggs or egg yolks separately, then gradually add to the hot mixture, stirring constantly.
  4. Return to heat and cook until the custard thickens further, then remove from heat.
  5. Add vanilla and stir well. Serve warm or chilled, great for topping pies or desserts.
