Sweet and flaky cookie turnovers filled with fruit filling, perfect for a delightful snack or dessert. Suitable for all ages and ideal for sharing at gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • cherry filling
  • pineapple filling

Instructions

  1. Mix 1 cup sugar, the shortening, eggs, and vanilla.
  2. Stir in flour, salt, and baking soda.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  4. Prepare filling.
  5. Heat oven to 400°F.
  6. Roll dough 1/16 inch thick on a lightly floured cloth-covered board.
  7. Cut into 3-inch rounds or squares.
  8. Spoon about 1 teaspoon filling onto half of each circle.
  9. Fold dough over filling; pinch edges to seal.
  10. Place about 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  11. Brush with milk; sprinkle with sugar.
  12. Bake until very light brown, 8 to 10 minutes.
  13. Immediately remove from cookie sheet.
