Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2 c. water (105 to 115°F)
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 c. oil
  • 6 to 6 1/2 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Stir in sugar, salt, eggs, oil, and 3 cups of flour.
  3. Beat until smooth.
  4. Add remaining flour gradually until dough is kneadable.
  5. Turn the mixture onto a floured surface and let it set with the bowl covering the mixture for about 10 minutes.
  6. Knead the mixture and place in a clean, lightly oiled bowl.
  7. Cover with a clean cloth and let rise until a finger poked into the mixture leaves a hole.
  8. Knead the mixture until all air is out.
  9. Let it rise a second time in the bowl, or shape into loaves and place into lightly greased loaf pans if short on time.
  10. Cover with a cloth and allow to double in size.
  11. Bake in a 350°F oven for about 1 hour until the top is lightly browned.
  12. Turn out of the pan; the bottom should sound hollow when thumped with a finger.
  13. Melt a small amount of butter over the top.
  14. Cool slightly and enjoy.
