Tips & Substitutions

For a sweeter relish, consider adding more sugar or using a sweeter apple variety. If fresh cranberries are unavailable, frozen cranberries can be used directly without thawing. To enhance flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg. This relish can also be made a day ahead to allow the flavors to meld, similar to how you might prepare Christmas Wreath Cookies.

Serving Suggestions

This Cranberry Harvest Relish pairs beautifully with turkey or ham, making it a perfect side for holiday meals. For a refreshing twist, serve it alongside homemade oven fries or as a topping on sandwiches. It can also be used as a filling in desserts or enjoyed with cream cheese on crackers for a delicious appetizer.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. The flavors will continue to develop as it sits. Avoid freezing, as the texture may become mushy upon thawing. To serve again, simply enjoy it cold directly from the fridge, as it is not meant to be reheated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this relish ahead of time?

Absolutely! This relish can be made up to two days in advance. Just keep it stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container. Making it ahead allows the flavors to meld beautifully, enhancing the overall taste.

Can I substitute the strawberry jello?

Yes, you can substitute with any berry-flavored jello if you prefer a different taste profile. Raspberry or blueberry jello would work well, but keep in mind that the color and flavor will change slightly.

Is this recipe suitable for vegans?

The traditional recipe uses jello, which is not vegan due to gelatin. However, you can substitute the jello with a plant-based jello alternative to make it suitable for vegan recipes. Ensure the sugar used is also vegan-friendly.
