Ingredients

  • 4 cups celery, cut diagonally into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup pecan halves
  • buttered bread crumbs

Instructions

  1. Boil celery in water to cover in a saucepan until tender; drain.
  2. Blend flour into melted butter in a skillet.
  3. Add milk slowly to the skillet and simmer until thick and smooth, stirring constantly.
  4. Add salt and cooked celery; mix well.
  5. Spoon mixture into a greased 1 1/2-quart casserole.
  6. Top with pecan halves and buttered bread crumbs.
  7. Bake at 400°F for 15 minutes.
