Ingredients

  • 6 medium turnips
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 c milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Peel the turnips and cut into 1/2-inch slices.
  2. Cover the turnip slices with cold water in a deep pot.
  3. Add salt to the water and cook briskly for 30 minutes, or until the turnips are tender.
  4. Drain the cooking water from the turnips.
  5. Pour in the milk over the drained turnips.
  6. Add the freshly ground black pepper, return to heat, and cook for 3 to 4 minutes without boiling.
