Ingredients

  • 10 hot dogs
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoon yellow cornmeal
  • 3 tablespoon shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Pat hot dogs dry with paper towels.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and cornmeal.
  3. Cut in shortening thoroughly until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in beaten egg and milk until batter is smooth.
  5. Dip hot dogs into batter, allowing excess to drip off.
  6. Fry in hot oil until golden brown, about 2 minutes.
  7. Insert wooden skewer into the end of each corn dog before serving.
