Ingredients

  • 4 cups young tender green beans
  • 1 small onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Bring 1 inch of water to a boil in a frying pan.
  2. Add green beans, cover, and reduce heat. Cook for 8 minutes.
  3. Drain the green beans and transfer to ice water for 5 minutes.
  4. Drain the green beans again.
  5. Sauté onion and garlic in vegetable oil until tender, stirring constantly.
  6. Add the drained green beans back to the pan and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  7. Add 2 tablespoons water, sugar, and salt to the pan.
  8. Cook for an additional 2 minutes and serve.
