Ingredients

  • 1 German chocolate cake mix
  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 6 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup oleo melted
  • 1 cup pecans
  • 14 oz bag caramels

Instructions

  1. Combine the cake mix, melted oleo, and 1/3 cup of evaporated milk in a bowl.
  2. Press half of the mixture into a greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan to form the crust.
  3. Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.
  4. Remove from the oven and sprinkle nuts and chocolate chips over the baked crust.
  5. Melt the caramels with the remaining 1/3 cup of evaporated milk in a double boiler until smooth.
  6. Spread the caramel mixture over the chocolate chips and nuts.
  7. Press the remaining cake mixture over the caramel layer.
  8. Bake at 350°F for an additional 20 minutes.
  9. Allow to cool slightly and refrigerate before serving.
