Ingredients

  • 7 slices day-old bread, buttered
  • 8 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 quart milk
  • 1 cup raisins

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
  3. Break the buttered bread slices into the prepared pan.
  4. In a bowl, beat the eggs.
  5. Add sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and milk to the eggs and mix well.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the bread in the pan.
  7. Sprinkle raisins evenly over the top.
  8. Set the baking pan into a larger pan filled with at least 1 inch of hot water to create a water bath.
  9. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
