Dale's Rolls are soft, fluffy yeast rolls with a slightly sweet flavor, perfect for family dinners, picnics, or as a warm snack with butter and jam.

Ingredients

  • 3 pkg. yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 7 1/2 cups plain flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Scald milk and cool to lukewarm.
  3. Add dissolved yeast, milk, sugar, salt, and shortening to 4 cups of flour; beat by hand until it makes a medium-soft dough.
  4. Add the remaining flour and work into the dough.
  5. Let the dough rise in a greased, oiled bowl covered with a wet cloth until doubled in size.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured board and roll out.
  7. Cut with a cookie cutter, brush with oil, and let rise again.
  8. Bake in a greased pan at 350°F for 15 to 20 minutes.
