Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 squares chocolate
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup instant coffee
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 quart milk
  • 1/3 cup chilled whipping cream

Instructions

  1. Chill bowl and beater.
  2. In a medium saucepan, mix chocolate, water, sugar, coffee, and salt.
  3. Set over low heat, stirring until chocolate melts and mixture comes to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat and cook for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove from heat.
  6. Stir constantly while adding milk.
  7. Return to heat until scalded, not boiled.
  8. Beat whipping cream in a well-chilled bowl until cream stands in peaks.
  9. Serve coffee piping hot, each serving topped with whipped cream.
