Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons ginger
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, cream the shortening. Add sugar gradually. Add eggs and molasses, then blend well.
  2. In a second bowl, sift together the flour, cinnamon, ginger, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Gradually add the dry mixture to the creamed mixture, stirring well to combine.
  4. Knead the dough and shape into rolls.
  5. Chill the dough overnight.
  6. Next day, slice the dough and bake in a 350°F oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
