Ingredients

  • 1 cup finely chopped pitted dates
  • 1/2 cup slivered blanched almonds
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg white
  • about 12 candied cherries

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the chopped dates, slivered almonds, sugar, vanilla extract, and egg white.
  2. Refrigerate the mixture for 1 hour.
  3. Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C).
  4. Grease a large cookie sheet.
  5. Shape the date mixture into small balls; top each with a halved candied cherry and place on the prepared cookie sheet.
  6. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes.
  7. Cool on the cookie sheet for 5 minutes.
  8. Remove the balls to wire racks to cool completely.
