Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1/3 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon melted shortening
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 3 cups scalded skim milk
  • 6 cups wheat flour

Instructions

  1. Soften the yeast in warm water.
  2. Combine melted shortening, honey, molasses, salt, and scalded skim milk in a mixing bowl.
  3. Cool the mixture to lukewarm and add to the yeast.
  4. Add wheat flour and knead the dough until smooth and elastic.
  5. Shape the dough into 2 loaves.
  6. Place the loaves into bread pans.
  7. Let the dough rise until almost doubled in size, about 1 to 2 hours.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour and 10 minutes.
