Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 4 Tbsp molasses
  • 1 c sugar
  • 3/4 c shortening
  • 2 c flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ginger

Instructions

  1. Sift together the dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, and ginger.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients with the liquids: egg, molasses, sugar, and shortening until well combined.
  3. Let the dough chill in the refrigerator for 2 hours or overnight.
  4. Roll the chilled dough into balls and roll them in sugar.
  5. Place the sugar-coated dough balls on a cookie sheet and bake at 325°F for 8 minutes. Do not overbake.
