Ingredients

  • 7 slices bread
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/4 cups light brown sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bread by removing crusts and buttering each slice.
  2. Stack all slices and cut into 4 to 6 cubes.
  3. Place the cubed bread into the double boiler.
  4. Add the light brown sugar and milk to the boiler with the bread cubes.
  5. Beat the eggs well and pour them over the bread mixture.
  6. Do not stir the mixture.
  7. Cover and cook on medium heat for about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  8. Do not uncover until ready to serve.
  9. Top with whipped cream before serving. Can be warmed if any leftovers remain in the double boiler.
