Ingredients

  • 2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 c. sweet milk
  • 3/4 stick butter
  • 2 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Pour the sweet milk into a double boiler with water in the bottom boiler.
  2. Heat the milk until almost hot.
  3. Add the butter to the milk.
  4. Add the granulated sugar.
  5. Stir constantly until the sugar is dissolved and then add the vanilla.
  6. Cook until the soft ball stage is reached, then remove from the heat.
  7. Spread the caramel icing between the layers and on the top of the cake while still warm.
