Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 5 cups self-rising flour, sifted
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water

Instructions

  1. Cut shortening into the sifted self-rising flour and sugar until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Dissolve active dry yeast in warm water and mix into the flour mixture.
  3. Stir until well combined.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl and let it rise for 1 hour.
  5. Knead the dough well on a lightly floured surface.
  6. Roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
  7. Sprinkle generously with cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  8. Roll up the dough and cut crosswise into 1/2-inch slices to form individual rolls.
  9. Cover the rolls and let them set overnight at room temperature.
  10. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
