  3. Gradually add the remaining 4 cups of flour, 2 cups at a time, mixing well.
  4. Grease the sides of the bowl and the top of the flour mixture.
  5. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise for 2 hours until it doubles in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a floured surface.
  7. Roll out the dough to about 1-inch thickness.
  8. Cut the dough with a biscuit cutter and place the rolls on an ungreased baking sheet.
  9. Cover the rolls and let rise for an additional 2 hours.
  10. Bake at 400°F (204°C) for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Tips & Substitutions

For best results, ensure the water is lukewarm, around 110°F (43°C), to activate the yeast properly. If you don't have Crisco oil, canola or vegetable oil works well as substitutes. If you want a richer flavor, consider adding a tablespoon of melted butter to the dough. Make sure to knead the dough well for a light and airy texture.

Serving Suggestions

These rolls are perfect served warm with butter, alongside a hearty soup or salad. They pair beautifully with Easy Cream-Style Corn or can be used to soak up the flavors of Tomato And Cheese Sauce. For a delightful twist, serve them with a side of Artichoke And Cheese Dip for dipping.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze them in a freezer-safe bag for up to 2 months. To reheat, simply place them in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes until warmed through.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use instant yeast instead of active dry yeast?

Yes, you can substitute instant yeast for active dry yeast in this recipe. Use the same amount, but you can skip the step of dissolving it in water. Just mix it directly with the dry ingredients for a quicker preparation.

What if my dough doesn't rise?

You can also let it rise longer if necessary, but be cautious not to over-proof it.

Can I make the dough ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can prepare the dough, let it rise, and then refrigerate it for up to 24 hours. Just make sure to allow it to come to room temperature and rise again before shaping and baking for the best results.
