Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups warm water
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 6 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar or sweetener
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons shortening

Instructions

  1. Pour the warm water into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add yeast; let stand a few minutes until it activates.
  3. Add about half of the flour, sugar, salt, and shortening to the bowl.
  4. Set mixer on medium speed and beat for 2 minutes, or until smooth.
  5. Add the remaining flour mixture to the bowl.
  6. Stir in by hand until well combined.
  7. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
