Ingredients

  • 6 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons softened butter
  • 2 cups very warm water (120°F to 130°F)
  • 3 eggs

Instructions

  1. Mix together 1 1/2 cups of flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Add softened butter to the mixture.
  3. Gradually add very warm water (120° to 130°F) and beat for 2 minutes at medium speed with an electric mixer.
  4. Add eggs and 1/2 cup of flour, then beat at high speed for 2 minutes.
  5. Stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
  6. Cover and let rise until doubled in size, about 35 minutes.
  7. Punch down the dough.
  8. Turn the dough into 2 well-greased loaf pans or a 1 1/2-quart casserole.
  9. Cover and let rise again for about 40 minutes.
  10. Bake at 375°F for 35 minutes.
