Empanaditas are flavorful, bite-sized pastries filled with seasoned chicken and chili sauce, perfect for snacking or as appetizers for gatherings and casual meals.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup cooked, chopped chicken
  • 3 tablespoons chili sauce
  • pinch of chili powder
  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 1 tablespoon shortening
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Mix cooked, chopped chicken, chili sauce, and a pinch of chili powder together; set aside.
  2. In a bowl, combine plain flour, sugar, salt, margarine, shortening, and egg yolk.
  3. Gradually add water, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into circles.
  5. Place a spoonful of the chicken mixture in the center of each circle.
  6. Fold the dough over to enclose the filling and seal the edges.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
