- Boil sugar, water, and salt together until syrup reaches 235° on a candy thermometer.
- Add butter and boil until bubbles are yellow. Cool to room temperature.
- Add vanilla and eggs; beat well.
- Place walnuts in the bottom of a 9-inch unbaked pie shell.
- Pour the mixture over the walnuts.
- Bake at 325° for 55 minutes.
