Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup melted shortening

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Add milk, eggs, and melted shortening to the dry ingredients.
  3. Beat the mixture for 1 minute until well blended.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased 9-inch square baking pan.
  5. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 20 to 25 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and tests done.
