Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 2 cups milk, scalded and cooled
  • 7 cups sifted flour
  • 2 packages yeast
  • Butter
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt

Instructions

  1. Add Crisco to milk while the milk is still warm.
  2. When the milk has cooled, dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water and add it to the milk mixture.
  3. Add sugar, salt, beaten eggs, and sifted flour to the mixture.
  4. Beat the mixture well until smooth and elastic.
  5. Let the dough rest in a bowl for about 20 minutes.
  6. Knead the dough for a minute or two until smooth.
  7. Fill greased muffin pans two-thirds full with the dough or shape into rolls and let rise until double in size.
  8. Bake in a hot oven at 425°F for 20 minutes.
  9. Brush the rolls with butter immediately after removing from the oven.
  10. Makes about 36 rolls. Only one rising is necessary for this recipe.
