Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 cup sour or buttermilk
  • 1 cup ground and cooked raisins in 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Cream the shortening; add the brown sugar and white sugar and beat well.
  2. Mix the baking soda with the sour or buttermilk and add it to the creamed mixture.
  3. Gradually add flour to form a soft dough.
  4. Roll out the dough and cut into round cookies with a cookie cutter.
  5. Place the cookies on a cookie sheet and fill each with the raisin mixture.
  6. Top each filled cookie with another cookie dipped in sugar.
  7. Bake at 375°F until light brown.
