Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 2/3 cup sweet milk

Instructions

  1. Sift dry ingredients together in a mixing bowl.
  2. Cut in Crisco until well combined.
  3. Add milk and stir quickly with a fork until the dough follows the fork around the bowl.
  4. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently with the heel of your hand.
  5. Pat the dough to 1/2-inch thickness.
  6. Cut with a biscuit cutter and place on an ungreased baking sheet.
  7. Bake in a 450°F oven for 10 to 12 minutes.
