Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 cups cored, peeled, thinly sliced apples
  • 2 tablespoons self-rising flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 2/3 cups self-rising flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. Melt 1/2 cup of butter in a 9-inch square or 11 x 7-inch baking pan.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons of self-rising flour, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg.
  4. Add the sliced apples to the bowl and toss to coat evenly.
  5. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the melted butter in the baking pan.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix 1 2/3 cups of self-rising flour and 1/4 cup of sugar.
  7. Sprinkle this flour mixture evenly over the apples.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
