- Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
- Melt 1/2 cup of butter in a 9-inch square or 11 x 7-inch baking pan.
- In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons of self-rising flour, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg.
- Add the sliced apples to the bowl and toss to coat evenly.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly over the melted butter in the baking pan.
- In a separate bowl, mix 1 2/3 cups of self-rising flour and 1/4 cup of sugar.
- Sprinkle this flour mixture evenly over the apples.
- Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
