Ingredients

  • 6 oz. dried apples, chopped
  • 2 c. water
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Place dried, chopped apples in cold water in a large saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to medium low.
  3. Simmer until apples are tender, about 20 minutes.
  4. Add sugar, cinnamon, and/or nutmeg and mix well.
  5. Use a potato masher to mash apples slightly if desired.
  6. Place 2 tablespoons of apple filling in the center of a 6-inch round of pie crust.
  7. Moisten the edges of the crust with water, fold over to enclose the filling, and press edges firmly with a fork.
  8. Fry the assembled pies in melted shortening until golden brown.
