Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • water
  • 1 lime or half orange, sliced
  • 2 cups fresh lemon juice
  • grenadine syrup or cranberry juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar and 2 cups water in a small saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil; boil for 1 minute.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Add sliced lime or orange.
  5. Cool to room temperature.
  6. Cover and refrigerate up to 24 hours if making ahead.
  7. Strain the syrup into a pitcher.
  8. Add 2 cups of fresh lemon juice and 5 cups of water to the pitcher.
  9. Pour into ice-filled glasses.
  10. For pink lemonade, add 2 drops of grenadine or 1 tablespoon of cranberry juice to each glass.
